Ingredients

  • 300g cooked crab meat
  • 30ml low-fat mayonnaise
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 2 tbsp fresh chives, finely chopped
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 3 tbsp sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • Juice of 1 Meyer lemon
  • 200g cherry tomatoes, quartered
  • 1 avocado, diced
  • 1/2 small red onion, finely diced
  • 1 red chili, finely chopped
  • Handful of mint leaves, chopped
  • Handful of fresh coriander, chopped
  • 1 yellow pepper, finely sliced
  • 1/2 cucumber, halved and sliced
  • 2 scallions, finely sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or rapeseed oil
  • 8 small corn tortillas
  • Lime wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. Check crab meat for shell pieces and squeeze out excess liquid.
  2. Mix crab meat with mayonnaise, lime juice, chives, salt, and pepper. Set aside.
  3. In a blender, combine ripe avocados, sour cream, Meyer lemon juice, and salt to make avocado mousse. Blend until smooth.
  4. In a bowl, combine cherry tomatoes, diced avocado, red onion, red chili, lime juice, mint, and coriander for salsa. Mix well and chill.
  5. In another bowl, toss yellow pepper, cucumber, and scallions with olive oil, lime juice, and chopped coriander for slaw. Season to taste.
  6. Warm tortillas in a dry skillet for 20–30 seconds on each side.
  7. Assemble tacos: start with avocado mousse or slaw, add crab mixture, then top with salsa. Garnish with herbs and a lime wedge.

Notes

  • Use fresh crab meat for best results, but high-quality canned crab can work in a pinch.
  • To prevent avocado mousse from browning, store with plastic wrap pressed directly on its surface.
  • For extra heat, add a dash of hot sauce to the crab mix.
  • Let guests build their own tacos for a fun, interactive meal.
