Ingredients
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 cup dill pickles, finely chopped
2 tbsp pickle juice
1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped
1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped (or 1 tsp dried dill)
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/2 cup crushed Ritz crackers or chopped pecans (for coating)
Instructions
In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped dill pickles, pickle juice, green onions, dill, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
Shape the mixture into a ball using plastic wrap to help mold it together. Wrap tightly and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to let the flavors meld and the cheese ball firm up.
Before serving, roll the cheese ball in the crushed Ritz crackers or chopped pecans, pressing gently to coat the outside evenly.
Notes
- Soften the Cream Cheese: For a smoother mixture, make sure the cream cheese is fully softened before mixing. This makes it easier to combine with the other ingredients and results in a more uniform texture.
- Chill Time: Allowing the cheese ball to chill for at least an hour helps the flavors meld together. If you have the time, you can even prepare it a day in advance—just keep it wrapped in plastic until you’re ready to serve.
- Customize Your Coating: Crushed pecans are optional, but they add a delightful crunch and an extra layer of flavor. If you’re not a fan of nuts, try rolling the cheese ball in fresh chopped dill, diced pickles, or even a mix of seeds like sesame and poppy.
- Pickle Choices: Feel free to experiment with different types of dill pickles! Some people enjoy a stronger garlic flavor, while others prefer a milder, less tangy taste. Adjust based on your preference, and you can even try using pickle chips for a fun texture twist.
- Serving Suggestions: Pair the Dill Pickle Cheese Ball with a variety of dippers, like buttery crackers, crunchy pretzels, pita chips, or sliced veggies. It’s a versatile appetizer that complements a wide range of snacks.
