Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 large apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup (43g) old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup (70g) packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup (31g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup (56g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • Salted caramel sauce for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F (149°C). Line 8-inch square pan with parchment paper.
  2. Make crust: Mix melted butter, sugar, vanilla, salt, and flour. Press into pan. Bake 15 minutes.
  3. Prepare filling: Toss sliced apples with flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Make streusel: Combine oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, flour. Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
  5. Increase oven to 350°F. Layer apples over crust, top with streusel. Bake 30-35 minutes.
  6. Cool 20 minutes, then chill 2 hours before cutting.
  7. Serve with salted caramel drizzle.

  • Use mix of sweet and tart apples for best flavor
  • Chill bars completely before cutting for clean slices
  • Store covered in refrigerator up to 5 days
  • Can freeze for up to 3 months
