  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup full-fat sour cream, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups peeled, chopped apples
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Grease 9×13-inch pan or line with parchment.
  2. Make crumb topping: Mix sugars, cinnamon, salt. Stir in melted butter, then flour until crumbles form.
  3. Prepare cake: Whisk flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt. Set aside.
  4. Beat softened butter and sugar until creamy, 2 minutes. Add eggs, sour cream, vanilla. Mix in dry ingredients.
  5. Toss apples with cinnamon.
  6. Spread batter in pan. Top with apples, then crumb topping. Press topping firmly.
  7. Bake 45-55 minutes until toothpick comes out clean. Cover with foil if browning too quickly.
  8. Cool 30-45 minutes before serving. Add icing if desired.
