Ingredients
1 box of vanilla or chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients required for the mix)
½ cup (120g) frosting (vanilla or chocolate, depending on cake flavor)
12 oz (340g) white chocolate or candy melts (red, green, or white)
Assorted holiday sprinkles
20–24 lollipop sticks
Instructions
Bake the Cake:
Prepare the cake according to the box instructions. Once baked, let it cool completely.
Crumble and Mix:
Crumble the cooled cake into fine crumbs in a large bowl. Add frosting a little at a time and mix until the crumbs stick together when pressed.
Form the Balls:
Roll the mixture into 1-inch balls and place them on a lined baking sheet. Insert a lollipop stick into each ball, then chill in the freezer for 15–20 minutes.
Coat the Cake Pops:
Melt the white chocolate or candy melts according to package instructions. Dip each cake pop into the melted coating, ensuring it’s fully covered. Let excess drip off.
Decorate:
Quickly sprinkle the pops with holiday-themed sprinkles before the coating sets. Place them upright in a styrofoam block or on parchment paper to dry completely.
Notes
Avoid Overmixing: When combining the cake crumbs with frosting, start with a little frosting and add more as needed. The mixture should just hold together.
Chill Thoroughly: Chilling the cake balls is key! It prevents them from crumbling or sliding off the sticks when dipped.
Smooth Dipping: To avoid clumps, ensure your melted chocolate is smooth and runny. Adding a teaspoon of coconut oil or shortening can help.
Plan Your Decorations: Work quickly when adding sprinkles or decorations, as the chocolate coating sets fast.
Storage Tips: Store cake pops in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
