Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 (10.5 ounce) cans condensed cream of chicken soup
  • 1 medium onion, finely diced
  • 1 (10 ounce) package refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 2 cups chicken broth (or water)

Instructions

  1. Place chicken, condensed cream of chicken soup, butter, and diced onion in the crockpot.
  2. Pour in chicken broth until ingredients are just covered.
  3. Cover and cook on HIGH for 5–6 hours or LOW for 7–8 hours, until chicken is tender.
  4. About 30 minutes before serving, shred the chicken with two forks and return it to the crockpot.
  5. Cut or tear biscuit dough into small pieces and stir them into the broth.
  6. Cover and cook until dumplings are no longer raw in the center, about 30 minutes.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

  • For richer flavor, use chicken broth instead of water.
  • Flatten biscuit dough before adding for thinner dumplings.
  • Add vegetables such as peas, carrots, or celery for extra nutrition.
  • Remove dumplings before freezing to avoid mushy texture.
  • Resist lifting the lid when cooking dumplings to ensure even cooking.
