  • 24 tablespoons pure maple syrup (to taste)
  • Peel from one orange
  • 23 cinnamon sticks
  • 56 whole cloves
  • 1 star anise (optional)
  • 34 thin slices fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Apple slices (optional, for garnish)
  • Cinnamon sugar (optional, for rim garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, pour in the apple cider and stir in the maple syrup.
  2. Add orange peel, cinnamon sticks, cloves, ginger, and star anise.
  3. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat. Do not boil.
  4. Simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally to release the spices.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract just before serving.
  6. Strain out the solids using a fine-mesh strainer.
  7. Pour into mugs and garnish with apple slices or rim with cinnamon sugar if desired.
