Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 lobster tails (4–6 oz each)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (for serving)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Rinse the lobster tails under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
  2. Place the lobster tails on a cutting board and use kitchen scissors to cut through the top shell lengthwise.
  3. Gently lift the lobster meat above the shell while keeping it attached at the base to butterfly the tail.
  4. Fill a large pot with about 2 inches of water and add the salt and lemon slices.
  5. Insert a steamer basket into the pot, ensuring the water sits below the basket.
  6. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
  7. Place the lobster tails in the steamer basket and cover the pot with a lid.
  8. Steam the lobster tails for 7–9 minutes until the shells turn bright red and the meat becomes opaque.
  9. While the lobster cooks, melt butter in a small saucepan and stir in the minced garlic if desired.
  10. Remove the lobster tails from the steamer using tongs.
  11. Drizzle with melted butter and garnish with chopped parsley.
  12. Serve immediately with lemon wedges.

Notes

  • Avoid overcooking lobster to keep the meat tender and juicy.
  • Medium-sized lobster tails (4–6 oz) cook most evenly.
  • Add herbs or extra lemon slices to the steaming water for additional aroma.
  • Serve with melted garlic butter for the best flavor.
  • Fresh lobster tails provide the best texture and taste.
